We are looking for a few good Snow Buddies!
Snow Buddies is a volunteer program that matches our city’s senior citizens or those who may have a disability with a volunteer that is willing to shovel a bit of snow to help make their Buddy feel more secure in getting out in wintertime weather.
Volunteers are asked to shovel any sidewalks on the property and to also shovel a path from the front door or garage (your Buddy's preference) to the street/end of driveway. Buddies are not expected to shovel the entire driveway. You should also not ask or expect payment to be a volunteer.
Buddies are asked to shovel within 24 hours of a 2-inch or more snow event.
To qualify, you must be a senior citizen or have a disability that makes it difficult to shovel snow. You must live in a single-family residence. Residents of communities that provide snow shoveling as part of the resident amenities are not eligible to participate in Snow Buddies.
You may sign up for Snow Buddies on the City’s website under the “Volunteer” section. If you are unable to sign up online, please call City Hall at 913-837-2324. The program is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to the number of volunteer shovelers who participate in the program. City staff administers the program.
