Stormwater projects
Posted 5/10/25 - The construction crew has notified City staff that all asphalt work is complete, and all roads are open in the Rogers Road stormwater project.
Posted 5/9/25 - Asphalt is coming! Crews are expected to begin laying asphalt tomorrow in the Rogers Road stormwater project area that includes Rogers Road, S. Ninth and S. Sixth and Doyle area. Residents are asked to avoid the area to allow the construction equipment room to navigate on the narrow streets in those neighborhoods.
Posted 2/7/25 - Delay of game! Construction crews located an unknown manhole buried two feet under the center of S. Eighth St. that services several homes on Rogers Road. This required a delay in the project so engineers, contractors and City staff could formulate a game plan. A new sewer line will be installed next week and excavation for the culvert box under Rogers Road will begin shortly thereafter.
Posted 1/27/25 - The construction crew for the City's stormwater project on S. Rogers Road will be laying a temporary sewer line across S. Ninth St. just east of Rogers Road starting tomorrow to allow for installation of a new sewer line under Rogers Road. The temporary piping will be covered with a gravel ramp to allow vehicles to safely pass over it. It is expected to be in place for just a few days with work completed by the end of the week.
Posted 12/30/24 - Multiple utility crews are working to relocate their utilities in preparation of the installation of the box culvert and underground storm pipes at Rogers Road. That work is expected to be completed in the next week or so.
Posted 12/16/24 - Work started today on the Rogers Road stormwater project. Doyle Street between S. Fifth and S. Eighth streets was closed to through traffic today. If you do not live along this street between S. Fifth and S. Eighth streets, please avoid traveling on it. There may be days subcontractors or utility crews are working in the area.
The accompanying map shows the general location of the enclosed pipe that will help carry stormwater from Doyle to the new box culvert at S. Eighth and Rogers.
This project is designed to minimize localized flooding that is experienced in this area.
Posted 12/11/24 - The next City stormwater project will be the first phase of a two-phase project and will target the area from S. Ninth and Rogers Road to S. Sixth and Doyle streets. The entire project, once complete, will eventually address stormwater to include S. Fifth and Broadway.
The City Council approved a bid of $935,938.40 from G-B Construction for this improvement project at the Nov. 18, 2024, council meeting. The project is targeted for completion in 2025.
Construction will begin Monday, Dec. 16 with the closure of Rogers Road at S. Eighth. The road will be closed approximately 60 days, weather dependent. Residents who live south of S. Fifth on Rogers Road and those that live on S. Eighth between Rogers Road and Doyle Street will have access to their driveways during the road closure. There may be times when driveway access will be limited, but the construction company will be notifying residents with door hangers prior to that work taking place.
The Rogers Road detour will send motorists to Broadway to access Rogers Road via S. Fifth or S. Ninth streets.
The construction work will start at the southern end of the project and work upstream. One of the first noticeable items of the project will be a new poured-in-place box culvert at S. Eighth and Rogers Road.
Phase 2 of the project is targeted for budgeting in 2026.
This particular project will be the fourth of the top 5 priority projects to be completed as outlined in the City’s Stormwater Master Plan, which was accepted by the Council in 2019. Other work completed by the City include projects at N. Third and Broadway; S. First and Vine; and Shoreline and Broadmoor Drive. An additional stormwater project at Shoreline and S. Metcalf was completed as part of the Metcalf 2.0 project.
The complete Stormwater Master Plan is available on the City’s website on the Plans and Policies page.
This page will provide up-to-date information on the project for residents living in the area.
