Convention and Tourism Committee

The Convention and Tourism Committee is established by Charter Ordinance No. 18. This committee makes recommendations to the Governing Body concerning programs and expenditures for the promotion of conventions and tourism. The ordinance allows the City to levy a transient guest tax for sleeping accommodations paid at any hotel, motel or tourist court. 

The CTC mission statement is: Fostering Sustainable Growth, Cultivating Community Pride: Our mission is to regenerate the spirit of our small farm town by promoting and preserving its agricultural heritage, nurturing local culture, and creating enriching experiences for visitors. Through sustainable tourism initiatives, we aim to enhance economic vitality while fostering a sense of community pride and connection in our region. 

Five members shall serve on this committee, the majority of which shall be a representative balance of large and small businesses and businesses from the City. The terms of the five original members shall be: two members shall serve one-year terms; three members shall serve two-year terms; thereafter the terms shall be two years with no term limit if re-nominated and reappointed by the Governing Body. The number in parentheses indicates the year the current term ends with appointments occurring annually in February.

The committee's bylaws were ratified by the City Council at its Sept. 18, 2023, meeting.
